Upcoming 2014 Jeep Liberty Cherokee Rendered with Detailed

The name. The name “Jeep Liberty” was created because Jeep briefly sold the original Jeep Cherokee and the new SUV, which, like the original Grand Cherokee, was created to replace the Cherokee. In Europe, the Liberty is still sold as the Cherokee. The 2014 Jeep Cherokee will return to the original name, though the new vehicle shares very little indeed with the original, between the front wheel drive architecture, shape change, and architecture changes.

What It Is: An artist’s making of what the Vehicle Freedom alternative could look like. We say “Liberty replacement” because there happens to be opportunity Vehicle could restore the Cherokee name for its little SUV. The Cherokee name was used on the confident Freedom in European countries and other marketplaces, and many U.S. customers lovingly keep in mind the ravishingly rectilinear 1984–2001 XJ Cherokee, so the modify is not as extreme as it appears to be.

Why It Matters: Vehicle is in the middle of a lineup-wide renovation that started with the newest Wrangler and propagate to the Huge Cherokee (and, to a smaller level, the modified 2014 Compass and Patriot). The present Freedom is out of phase with its section opponents like the Honda Evade, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, and Kia Sportage in that it is large, dehydrated, and unprocessed. The new Huge Cherokee has been a big achievements, so if Vehicle can container that car's super and exchange its excellent looks and ability into less sized, more-affordable program, the organization could have another hit on its arms.

Platform: Seriously, the new Freedom is changing from a rear-drive-based, reinforced-unibody foundation to a new, Alfa Romeo–derived front-drive-based unibody that stick more with little cross-over dogma. (Hence why the variety spy images of the next Freedom all display cobbled-together analyze high heel mules dressed in hacked-up Alfa Romeo Giulietta body-work.) The structure is the same Lightweight U.S. Extensive stand up that supports the new Avoid Dart, but the Vehicle will provide all-wheel generate and even a harder-core Pathway Ranked edition. As portrayed by our making, the next Freedom is predicted to dump its squared-off design for a better, more streamlined system. (So ignore a boxy Cherokee redux.) Jeep-specific hints like a seven-slat grill and butch lower-body detail should help set the new Freedom apart stylistically.

Powertrain: Chrysler has not formally exposed what will energy the new Freedom, but the chief executive of the UAW’s Toledo Regional 12 said the cross-over would get “a 3.2-liter V-6 motor, nine-speed transmitting,” plus enhanced gas mileage. Chrysler’s Pentastar V-6, which heretofore has showed up only in 3.6-liter type, was developed to agree to displacements between 3.0- and 4.0 liters, so little sized motor would not be a complete shock. Also not surprising is the likelihood of a ZF-sourced nine-speed automatic, which Avoid programs to gradually put in the Dart. The new motor and transmitting would substitute the present Liberty’s historical 3.7-liter V-6 and absolutely historical four-speed automated. A smaller sized four-cylinder could provide base-engine responsibility, and Vehicle would have its option of either the Dart’s Fiat-derived 1.4-liter turbocompresseur or a new Alfa Romeo–sourced 1.8-liter turbocompresseur.
